At ZKP RTV Slovenija, in collaboration with Radio Slovenia – Program Ars, we are releasing the audiobook Veter in odmev (Wind and Echo) by poet, writer, editor, translator, and teacher Štefan Kardoš. The novel portrays contemporary Slovenian reality, exploring the conflict between a pragmatic, inward-looking community and a nonconforming individual. Above all, it stands out for its multi-layered composition and complex depiction of life and the world. In the audiobook, the novel is interpreted by actor Dario Varga. It is directed by Alen Jelen, with assistants Marko Rengeo and Ana Krauthaker, sound engineers Sonja Strenar and Matjaž Miklič, and music designer Darja Hlavka Godina. The audiobook can also be heard in the radio program Open Book (Odprta knjiga).

About the novel

As the body of guitarist Adam Teodor Vogrinski slowly and irreversibly decays, and as it seems his soul is about to cross the threshold and dissolve into boundless eternity and pure Love, something holds him back. The unfortunate man remains tethered to the burdens of the earthly world—albeit by a faint gravitational force called memory. Yet this force is strong enough to set mountains and time in motion…

…The story takes place in the idyllic mountain town of Gorenje selo—a world of hearty local cuisine and healing mead, a land of strong tradition, simple happiness, and modest prosperity, governed with a firm but just hand by the Robin Hood–like mayor and school principal, Karel Selan. Adam Teodor Vogrinski becomes a music teacher at the local primary school. But even before he enters the classroom for the first time, he is warned that he might not find pupils sitting at their desks—perhaps only hamsters, or something even less tangible.

Štefan Kardoš

Štefan Kardoš is a poet, writer, editor, translator, and teacher. He graduated in Slovene language and sociology of culture from the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana and works as a teacher at the Bilingual Secondary School in Lendava, where he teaches Slovene. He lives and works in Murska Sobota.
