For 60 years, the beloved Radio Slovenia programme Good Night, Children! (Lahko noč, otroci!) has been accompanying the youngest listeners into the world of dreams every evening at 7:45 p.m. on the First Programme of Radio Slovenia. To mark this remarkable anniversary, the show has now been transformed into a book edition. The book features 12 bedtime stories already known from the radio broadcasts, beautifully illustrated by Jaka Vukotič, and enriched with QR codes linking to the original audio stories available on the RTV Živ žav platform. Designed for both shared family reading and children’s first independent reading experiences, the book remains true to the mission of Good Night, Children! — to nurture imagination and foster a love of the Slovenian language. “In front of you are 12 stories you may already know from the radio, now brought to life in a printed edition. Good Night, Children! does not only invite you into the world of sound and imagination; it encourages listening and love for the Slovenian language, and delights with the superb performances of our radio actors, who at times creatively diverge from the written text. The book, released for the show’s 60th anniversary, offers an opportunity for shared or independent reading and can help overcome reading challenges. It has been carefully designed and printed to be accessible also to children with reading difficulties (for instance, dyslexia). Warm and playful illustrations accompany the stories, inviting readers into a world of diverse tales and heroes. At the same time, the book is a tribute to Slovenian authors who contribute to our annual contests for original Slovenian fairy tales and who understand that writing for children carries a special responsibility. A celebratory evening marking the 60th anniversary of Good Night, Children! will take place on 22 October 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in Hribar Hall at Ljubljana Castle (entrance from the castle courtyard). The event will feature the presentation of the anniversary story collection Good Night, Children! – 60 Years, followed at 7:45 p.m. by a live storytelling of Irena Androjna’s fairy tale The Chestnut Spirit — a fitting journey into the land of dreams.
