At the very end of the jubilee celebration of the Maribor Opera THE ARS Programmme of PMS RTV Slovenija, ZKP Publishing and Record Label and SNG Maribor combined archival recordings with the most recent ones to create an music panorama of the history of the institution. On this double edition the chorus, orchestra and opera soloists are presented for your music enjoyment as suitably as possible, especially with their “trademark” repertoire that has proved to be their greatest success.

“The first recordings date back to the late 1950s, and after that period the recording activity gradually began to flourish in the following decades, culminating with two archival recordings of Gounod’s Faust and Puccini’s La bohème in the 1980s. In the case of Faust, it is worth mentioning a great technical feat even for today’s standards, as the church scene was recorded in two separate place simultaneously, which was made possible through a cable connection established between the hall where the orchestra was recording and the organ in the cathedral across the street. Shortly afterwards, the era of recording silence followed, as recording was no longer possible due to formal complications between institutions, which has done an enormous and almost irreparable historical damage. It is therefore not surprising that we do not have any recordings of our few best singers with the house orchestra, who greatly contributed to the international acclaim of the Maribor Opera House, so we had to borrow a few recordings for this jubilee edition elsewhere. Despite the fact that formal complications regarding the recording of music is still not completely resolved, the Maribor Opera has consistently devoted itself, especially over the last years, to recording the most noteworthy achievements in music performance, thus accumulating a considerable number of recordings, which are presented on the second CD of this edition, featuring opera soloists, chorus and orchestra,” has written conductor and artistic director of the Maribor Opera Simon Krečič.
