ZKP RTV Slovenia, in collaboration with Radio Slovenia – Programme Ars, presents the CD and digital album Resonance, performed by pianist Aleksandra Pavlovič. The album features works by Marjan Mozetich, Nikolai Medtner, Claude Debussy, Sergej Rahmaninov, Vladimir Lovec, Aleksander Skrjabin in Johann Sebastian Bach. „In the history of music, the interpretation of a composition has also gradually shifted towards increasingly precise instructions. This may partly be due to the ever-increasing ego of the performer. Consequently, the performer’s sense of free dom (perhaps even anarchy) on stage becomes ever greater, sometimes resulting in an absolute divergence from the composer’s original idea of the composition. This can be seen in the compositions of Debussy and Ravel from the beginning of the twentieth century. The problem is to find absolute free dom within the box, to locate and share with the listener the infinity of the microcosm within the given framework of Ravel’s music boxes, or the experience in the five senses, the vastness of the moment within Debussy’s nature. The significance of the performer probably lies in this search for balance and connections between seemingly in compatible elements, in the search for causes and effects, in asking ever new questions that arise when delving into a composition. At this point, we irrepressibly and urgently need a theory or, better still, a “living theory”, not only from books, but from a “living theorist”. Of course, a theorist shouldn’t be just a living encyclopaedia and a source of formal knowledge, and as such a “re-creator”; instead, he or she should be a “co-creator”. In this chain, the crucial thing is how individual elements resonate. Hence the title: Resonance. This is what creates that truly shared experience of art in a fellow human being. The pianist follows instructions, but is only as he or she is today, here and now. The album consists of miniatures — fragments of life. We do not always know why certain fragments appear where they do, but in the end each represents an indispensable piece, sometimes understood only once the whole is revealed. The selection of works forms a unified whole through listening; each fragment inevitably resonates with the previous one. Pieces resonate with one another, people resonate with one another, the interpreter resonates with the composer… Life itself is nothing but resonance,” believes Aleksandra Pavlovič.
