ZKP RTV Slovenia, in cooperation with Radio Slovenia - Ars Programme and the Academy of Music UL, is releasing the album A Sense of the Wind performed by the wind sextet Camerata Academica Ljubljana, consisting of Miha Rogina (saxophone), Matej Šarc (oboe), Jože Rošer (horn) Zoran Mitev (bassoon), Karolina Šantl Zupan (flute) and Jože Kotar (clarinet). On it you will find new works by Tilen Slakan, Klemen Leben, Simon Kravos, Jan Triler, Aleksandra Naumovski Potisk, Klara Mlakar, Sašo Livrinski – Lavrod and Marko Muni Mihevc, written especially for the ensemble, in which they have interwoven their reflections, world views and intimate emotions, delving sensitively into the sonic and interpretative capabilities of wind instruments.

The ensemble Camerata Academica Ljubljana

The ensemble Camerata Academica Ljubljana is made up of excellent instrumentalists, professors of the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music and members of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. The sextet of wind players (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn and saxophone) is an instrumental combination for which there is no classical repertoire. However, contemporary musical creativity offers abundant possibilities, as it is forever seeking diverse and unique instrumental combinations and new sonic aesthetics. Camerata Academica was formed a few years ago as a unique permanent ensemble whose members, internationally recognised artists who teach at the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music, collectively strive to encourage the creation and performance of original repertoire by Slovenian and foreign composers, thus giving rise to artistic chamber music projects featuring works by current composers of the older, younger and youngest generations. The exact configuration of the ensemble adapts to the programme design of each project, expanding or contracting and bringing in string instruments when required. One of its goals is the promotion of new works that enrich its own musical repertoire as well as the cultural heritage of the broader music scene. The ensemble has successfully persuaded numerous Slovenian and foreign composers to create works that embody their thoughts, world views and intimate emotions, delving sensitively into the sonic and interpretative capabilities of wind instruments. With its original programme, its technical perfection and its outstanding musicianship, Camerata Academica has gained the admiration of audiences and the approbation of music critics. The ensemble has brought a breath of fresh air to the chamber music scene with its professional charisma and originality, introducing innovative orientations for creative and interpretive practice. All of this has encouraged the musicians to round off the public concert performances of their latest project, which is based on new works by invited composers – diverse compositions in terms of style, technique, interpretation and character, embracing contemporary tonal structures and performance techniques – with a digital recording that offers a broad audience a permanent sonic document of their work.
