At ZKP RTV Slovenia, in cooperation with Radio Slovenia – Program Ars, we are releasing the digital album Tišina v dvojnem zrcalu (Silence in a Double Mirror). The album brings together works by composer and music editor at Program Ars, Mihael Paš, ranging from electronic experiments to chamber and orchestral compositions. His music intertwines diverse sonic worlds—from intimate solo pieces to complex ensemble structures—and incorporates elements of real-world sounds and electronics. A special place on the album is held by the composition Dies Irae, in which the composer’s own heartbeat is embedded into the soundscape. The album also includes radio features about the composer: Mihael Paš and the Passion for Transcending the Possible, Memories of Mihael Paš, and Mihael Paš: Music as a Living Force. Poet, writer, translator, art historian, and essayist Miklavž Komelj remembers Paš as an exceptionally sensitive and unique personality, who stood out from an early age for his subtlety and distinctiveness. He was deeply drawn to the mysterious, the magical, and the unexplained—elements that shaped both his character and his creative work. Outwardly, he appeared reserved and calm, yet he carried within himself intense inner tensions and a profoundly deep experience of the world. His life was also marked by an early awareness of mortality, as he lived with a heart condition, which gave his art a particular depth and existential sharpness. He was an artist who did not follow established paths, but persistently sought his own expression and experienced the world directly, without distance. He poignantly expressed this inner experience in his own words: “Personality is a bottomless bucket. The fact that everything slips away and disappears fills us with panic. We grasp whatever comes to hand and blindly pile it into our bucket, trying somehow to deceive the opening of emptiness. A feeling of threat. Truth. A simple realization—that is death. Everything is in flux; nothing ever truly was, and nothing ever will be. Now is the eternal moment of infinite emptiness.”
