A nostalgic wartime romantic drama about love with Rade Šerbedžija and Snežana Nikšić in the main roles. The subject of nostalgia is the 1940s, »but as a time when youth lost its 'innocence' and itself with war and revolutionary ideology« (Zdenko Vrdlovec, film historian). The film was screened at the Berlinale in 1969 as part of the Week of Young Yugoslav Film.

The film is now available online in a digitized and restored version, in the pristine quality seen by viewers at the premiere in 1969.

SYNOPSIS

Ljubljana 1941, the war interrupts the careless lives of high school students Niko and Maria. The boy soon joins the underground movement and gets hurt in action. He finds shelter at Maria’s boathouse and waits for the partisans to collect him. And then he gets involved in a situation when he has to kill a person for the first time in his life. And this feeling of being caught between love and death marks his transition from being a child to becoming a fighter.

ABOUT THE FILM

In the film Sedmina play, among others, Rade Šerbedžija (Niko), Snežana Nikšić (Marija), Milena Dravić (Filomena), Mirko Bogataj (Popa), Relja Bašić (Carlo Gasparone) and Tone Slodnjak (Tiger). The screenplay was based on the book by Ben Zupančič and was written by Matjaž Klopčič who also directed the film, the director of photography is Rudi Vavpotič, the author of the music is Jože Privšek, the editor is Milka Badjura, the production designer is Niko Matul, the costume designer is Alenka Bartl Prevoršek and the make-up artist is Hilda Jurečič.
