Digitally restored screen adaptation of the first Slovene novel. Vojko Duletič was a provocative author and his coexistence with critics and viewers was never peaceful. Of The Tenth Brother, his fourth feature film, he said in his own style: »The Tenth Brother is an unusual film, because everyone expected Jurčič's rhythm, romance, Krjavelj and dialect, but what they got was a distanced costume drama.«

SYNOPSIS

The story is set in 1840, at Slemenice Castle, where Lovro Kvas is appointed as a local teacher. Love blossoms between him and the local daughter Manica - and at the same time we follow the mysterious story of the tenth brother Martinek Spak, the illegitimate son of Piškav, a landlord from the neighbouring manor. The story offers several twists and turns, a fight between Martinek and the landlord's son, the discovery of the identity of the tenth brother's father, the landlord's suicide. Will Lovro be able to marry Manica after all?
