Lojze Kranjčan has with this CD given us another musical treat while maintaining his exceptional and versatile career as a trombonist, conductor and composer, who doesn't recognise any set boundaries amongst different styles. On the contrary, with his relaxed view with respect to musical creativity, Kranjčan breaks down the stereotypical perceptions about music. He doesn't divide, he unites!
The desire for exploration introduced Kranjčan to the world of jazz during his studies of the classical trombone, as improvisation offered him much more freedom to explore his music expression. Kranjčan studied composition and arrangement in Graz, Austria, and also in Boston. After completing his studies, Kranjčan became a trombonist at the RTV Slovenija Symphonic Orchestra. He continued his career as a member of the Big Band RTV Slovenija, first as a soloist improviser. In 1993, he took over
conducting duties and tackled his first arrangements.
Therefore it's not surprising that the music of Lojze Kranjčan, which you're listening to at this very moment, spans between heavenly rhythms of the so-called classical soloists and a symphonic orchestra and boldly beats of jazz musicians, inspired by the atmosphere. Besides the usual soloists, the composer invited several excellent jazz musicians who make our skin tingle with their jamming and improvisational skills. The sensation is mellowed by soft melodies of the symphonic orchestra
string musicians. Lojze Kranjčan spans a broad repertoire of musical styles on this CD, which will make you ask again and again: Classical music or jazz? Maybe clazz!
