In cooperation with Radio Maribor ZKP RTV Slovenia is releasing the album Waving which the artist Oto Rimele created in the “Covid” period. The creation, instrumental performance, sound documentation and production sound design of the musical compositions took place between November 2019 and September 2021.
"The “Covid” period offered a challenge for the almost undisturbed creative experience brought by the isolation from normal social life. In order to begin creating, however, it was first necessary to achieve a state in which emptiness and silence covered and erased the images and sounds of ordinary, everyday reality. The emptiness then began to condense and the first outlines of the newly created reality emerged. Sound became a continuation of silence, as silence began to condense and activate itself. With this kind of silence, the conditions were created for life to begin; not the life of the present moment, but the life that happened sometime in the past and that I offer the opportunity to become sound and music now, to become a wave and a message. All of the initial musical motifs of this musical project were revealed by activating the body of the guitar. There were no restrictions, no reservations; there was not even time anymore, at least not officially prescribed time. These original sketches shaped on the guitar were emerging stimuli that were transformed into movement that created the time of sound and music and eventually achieved the final spatial images of sound. Thus, time and space formed the content of each individual composition. Seven musical compositions were created, as well as an eighth as an addition. There arose a chest with seven sonic seals, as well as the eighth cornerstone of the whole, which announces the content of the interior like a simple external bow. I was always sure that a completely instrumental sound image was the only and true bearer of reality for me at this moment. The creative intention was connected to necessity: to externalise and achieve reality from an immaterial, mental starting point. It is up to the listener (viewer) to break the individual seal and open the content."

OTO RIMELE
Oto Rimele is a painter, visual artist and author of visual spatial settings. He expresses himself with form and colour.
His art work could be described as “spiritual minimalism” and corresponds to the European sacral tradition and contemporary authors such as Mark Rothko, Anish Kapoor, James Turell, Bill Viola, Arvo Pärt.
Rimele finished undergraduate and postgraduate studies of fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. For the purpose of his studies, he has travelled around Europe, Great Britain and the States. Currently, he is Full Professor at the University of Maribor, Slovenia.
He has presented himself to the audience in numerous individual and group expositions. As a musician he cooperated with rock band Lačni Franz (1979–1985) and a Slovenian avant-garde music group Laibach (Opus Dei).
Recently, an important book of his artwork has been published, entitled Oto Rimele: Spirituality of Material Absence, which was written in co-operation with an important connoisseur of world art Professor Dr. Jure Mikuž.
