In collaboration with Radio Slovenia – First Programme, ZKP RTV Slovenia is releasing Jurčič – Tavčar: Between Fate and Longing (Med usodo in hrepenenjem), a musical-literary project by the duo Andrej Ofak and Borut Mori, featuring guest performer and text interpreter Ivan Lotrič. The project began at the initiative of Alja Kramar within the programme Prva vrsta on Radio Slovenia’s First Programme, marking the anniversary of the birth of Josip Jurčič. The creators conceived an initial cycle of original music that recreates the moods and themes of Jurčič’s literary oeuvre through selected works. The musical narrative is enriched by Ivan Lotrič’s interpretation of texts, which, together with the music, creates a complete artistic experience. The resulting compositions, including Kozlovska sodba, Lepa Vida, and Rokovnjači, are complemented by the introductory Prologue and Epilogue, framing a broader reflection on the writer’s life and creative work, deeply shaped by folk tradition. Following its successful presentation, the project continued with a musical interpretation of Visoška kronika by Ivan Tavčar. The authors immersed themselves in the novel’s multilayered story, creating distinctive atmospheres for individual scenes and characters through music and spoken word. This resulted in compositions such as Skušnjava (Temptation), Actionem na mestnem trgu, Krvava rihta – Agata, Ples (Dance), Zadnji luteran (The Last Lutheran), and Izidorjev testament (Izidor’s Testament), exploring a wide spectrum of human emotions – from brutality and suffering to joy, patriotism, and the strength and fragility of life.
