ZKP RTV Slovenia, in collaboration with Radio Slovenia – First Program, proudly presents the new album Dva črna vrana (Two Black Ravens) by Jadranka Juras. The record is available both on CD and in digital format. While the album draws heavily on jazz, it transcends strict genre boundaries — its songs carry the spirit of the singer-songwriter tradition and, at times, even a touch of pop sophistication. With profoundly thoughtful lyrics (including contributions by Maja Pihler Stermecki) and music that complements them seamlessly, the project defies simple categorization, offering a rich and holistic musical experience. Jadranka collaborated on the album with her husband, jazz pianist Milan Stanisavljević, who composed all but one of the songs and set the musical tone of the record. The sessions also feature Robert Jukič, Kristijan Krajnčan, Aleš Suša, and Croatian guitarist Elvis Penava. Actor and singer Saša Tabaković adds a special touch with a duet on the title track Dva črna vrana. Another key contributor is musician and arranger Matija Krečič, who wrote the string arrangements for most of the songs. “We live in a time when serious challenges overshadow our present and future,” says Jadranka. “Despite great achievements, we are becoming increasingly alienated — from each other, from nature, and from ourselves. We often see others as a threat instead of as people we could connect with. Although we live in an era of incredible technological progress, we still lag behind in consciousness and emotional intelligence. That’s why it’s essential to reconnect — with one another, with nature, and with the planet that is our shared home. Music can play a powerful role in this process; it unites us, awakens emotions and memories, and encourages reflection. Music connects us beyond differences and opens the space for deep emotional resonance. It can and must be a bridge toward a more harmonious future,” writes Jadranka, who dedicates the album to ending the suffering of all sentient beings.
Jadranka will present Dva črna vrana live with her Jadranka Juras Jazz Quintet on November 21 at the Skalna dvorana (Rock Hall) of Ljubljana Castle.
Jadranka Juras
Jadranka Juras began her musical journey in the late 1990s with the group Planet Groove. She later refined her vocal and musical artistry at the Jazz Institute of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, graduating in 2008 under Professor Dena DeRose. Blending jazz with elements of contemporary popular music and a strong authorial voice, she released two acclaimed solo albums: Anima and Sakura. Both received excellent reviews, and their singles topped major Slovenian radio
charts. Throughout her career, Juras has collaborated with many distinguished musicians and composers and has performed on numerous stages in Slovenia and abroad. Over the past 15 years, she has also studied opera singing under Professor Alenka Slokar Bajc and appeared in various operatic productions. She has recorded two jazz albums with the RTV Slovenia Big Band — Paris Honey (2016) and You and I and the Music (2019). In 2019,
together with the group Okustični, she released Enkratna, neponovljiva (Unique, Unrepeatable), which won the Zlata piščal (Golden Whistle) award for Album of the Year 2020.
