At ZKP RTV Slovenija, in cooperation with Radio Slovenia – First Programme, we are releasing the single Poet performed by Jadranka Juras. “Poet opens an intimate story of two people who accidentally enter each other’s lives but never truly connect. It is a gentle, melancholic song about closeness that heals — yet sadly also fades away, because everything that comes into being eventually passes in one way or another,” says Jadranka, who also wrote the lyrics, while the music was composed by Milan Stanisavljević. With this song, Juras pays tribute to Slovenia’s Cultural Holiday, which is observed on the anniversary of the death of the country’s greatest poet, France Prešeren. “Writing lyrics for music is also a kind of modern poetry, where words take shape through rhythm, sound, and melody. It is poetry that is not only read silently, but lives through the performer’s interpretation and the listener’s experience,” Jadranka explains. The song appears on the album Dva črna vrana (Two Black Ravens), which was released by ZKP RTV Slovenija last October on CD and in digital format.

Jadranka Juras

Jadranka began her musical career in the late 1990s with the band Planet Groove. She further developed her vocal and musical skills at the Jazz Institute of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, where she graduated in 2008 in jazz vocal performance under Prof. Dena DeRose. The combination of jazz singing, influences of contemporary popular music, and a desire for original artistic expression led to two acclaimed author projects: her debut album Anima and the later album Sakura. Both received excellent reviews, and singles from both albums reached the top of major radio charts in Slovenia. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with many renowned musicians and composers and performed on numerous stages at home and abroad. Over the past 15 years, she has also trained in operatic singing with Prof. Alenka Slokar Bajc and performed on opera house stages. She recorded two jazz albums — Paris Honey (2016) and You and I and the Music (2019) — in collaboration with the RTV Slovenia Big Band. In 2019, she recorded and released the album Enkratna, neponovljiva (Unique, One of a Kind) with the group Okustični, for which they received the Zlata piščal Award in 2021 for Best Album of 2020.
