At ZKP RTV Slovenia, in collaboration with Radio Slovenia – First Programme and the Music Production of RTV Slovenia, we are releasing the album Portraits, performed by singer Tjaša Fabjančič and the RTV Slovenia Big Band under the baton and with arrangements by Michael Lagger. Tjaša Fabjančič is one of the first representatives of a generation of Slovenian jazz singers who established themselves primarily through original music. With her diverse musical creativity, she has been connecting Slovenia and Austria for many years and has released four original albums to date (Traveling 2009, Circles 2011, Pripovedi 2013 and MiniatureN 2020). Her melodic music, infused with a poetic touch, effortlessly crosses the boundaries of genres and languages, telling stories about the bright and dark moments of life, about birth and departure, hope and tenderness. The selection of these compositions will be heard on this album beyond their more intimate settings, as the renowned Austrian pianist, composer and conductor Michael Lagger—her long-time musical collaborator—has masterfully transformed them into a powerful orchestral form written especially for the RTV Slovenia Big Band. “Why Portraits? On the one hand, this album is the complete opposite of how my music usually sounds—these subtle ‘miniatures’ have grown into large canvases in big band arrangements. On the other hand, through his interpretation of these songs, Michael somehow painted their portraits,” explains Tjaša. The promotional concert marking the album release will take place on Friday, March 13 at 8 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Krško Cultural Centre. The special guest of the concert will be Kristijan Krajnčan. The concert will also be recorded by Radio Slovenia – First Programme.
