The vinyl record Izvir by the band Izvir available again!
At ZKP RTV Slovenija, we have once again taken care of fans of Slovenia’s rock heritage. We have reissued the vinyl record Izvir by the cult band Izvir, which in the late 1970s played the progressive rock of that generation. The album was first released by ZKP RTV Slovenija in 1977, and in September 2024 we repressed it in a limited, numbered edition of 500 copies, on high-quality 180 g vinyl with specially restored recordings and a new LP mastering — but it sold out soon after. The record also includes one of their best-known songs, Šel je popotnik skozi atomski vek (“A Traveller Walked Through the Atomic Age”), with which they won the Yugoslav Rock Selection and then toured all the major Yugoslav cities.
The band Izvir was formed in 1974 and consisted of: Marko Bitenc (vocals), Marjan Lebar (bass), Andrej Petković (drums), Davorin Petrič and Franc Opeka (guitar), and Andrej Konjajev (keyboards). After winning the Yugoslav Rock Selection with the song Šel je popotnik skozi atomski vek, they also received an offer from RTV Slovenija to record the LP Izvir. “The recording took place at the Akademik studio. The sound engineer was Miro Bevc, and Aco Razbornik worked with him as well, since he didn’t yet have his own studio at the time,” Petrič recalls. At the time, he could not have imagined even in his wildest dreams that the record would become cult. “Those were different times. We were already incredibly happy just to be able to make music and record it, to have it played on the radio, and to have a record released. We never thought it would become such a hit one day,” Dare adds. The band broke up in 1977 when Opeka, Konjajev, and Petrič were drafted into the army. After returning, they continued their musical paths in other groups.
