One of the leading personalities of Slovene popular music celebrates 50 years of his musical and artistic career with the double CD Za vekomaj – Forever.
The singer and actor Lado Leskovar was born in Ljubljana in 1942. After lower grammar school leaves for Piran to study at the Nautical Secondary School from which he graduates in 1961. Works in Radio Television Slovenija as head journalist - presenter. He has been the National UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 1998.
Since a very young age he has been involved in music and the stage (his father was military band conductor, his uncle a musician) in the beginning singing folk and children's songs, involved in children's drama groups, followed by guitar and pop music, chanson. First movie sees him in Kekec I (1951). Throughout his schooling he is a member of the school orchestra and sings at parties. In 1958 he already plays and sings professionally in Portorož, first radio recording at Radio Ljubljana in
1959, after completing military service, while studying, he is engaged in a full-time job as a singer at Hotel Bellevue in Ljubljana. For the following 20 years is a freelance artist.
First record (I was younger than you - Puppy Love - Paul Anka) and first prize at the festival Slovenska popevka (We rarely see each other) Bled 1963.
First prize voted by audience and jury at Yugoslav Festival Opatija (Potraži me u predgradju – Look for me downtown) 1964 opens the way to the international scene.
From then, and to date, touring, records, festivals, TV programmes, films ..., and above all the chanson, poetry by means of music (sung poetry).
He sings lyrics written by: France Prešeren, Oton Župančič, Frane Milčinski, Edvard Kocbek, Matej Bor, Smiljan Rozman, Gregor Strniša, Veno Taufer, Igor Torkar, Branko Šoemen, Lojze Krakar, Svetlana Makarovič, Tone Kuntner, Ervin Fritz, Janez Menart, Tone Pavček, Ivan Minatti, Boris A. Novak, Drago Britvić, Desanka Maksimović, Miroslav Antić, Ljubivoje Ršumović, Vesna Parun, Arsen Dedić.
Cooperates with composers: Bojan Adamič, Jože Privšek (Jeff Conway), Mojmir Sepe, Jure Robežnik, Urban Koder, Nikica Kalogjera, Zdenko Runjić, Kornelije Kovač, Pero Gotovac, Arsen Dedić.
Records, cassettes, awards: many individual and group, at home and abroad (RTV Slovenija, Sraka, Jugoton, Diskos, Skalinada, Diskoton, RTB, Melodija – USSR, Philips – Germany). Many awards by expert juries for interpretation.
Radio recordings: over 300 (Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Skopje, USSR, Germany).
Films: Kekec I, Grajski biki (with Stane Sever), Kam po dežju (film festival Moscow), Isadora (with Vanessa Redgrave – Golden Palm at Cannes Film Festival 1969).
