At ZKP RTV Slovenia, we have once again catered to fans of Slovenian rock heritage. We have reissued the vinyl album Od višine se zvrti by Martin Krpan, which held the record as the best-selling Slovenian rock album for nearly twenty years. Originally released by ZKP RTV Slovenia in 1987, the album features, alongside the title track, hits such as Je v Šiški še kaj odprtega, Še je čas, and To ni političen song. It is the band’s third studio album, recorded by the lineup of Vlado Kreslin (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica), Aleš Klinar (vocals, keyboards), Mark Čuček (guitars), Tomaž Sršen (bass), and Dadi Kašnar (drums). “The songs on Od višine se zvrti were created gradually between March 1985 and February 1987 and were not intended as part of a conceptual project. We recorded them under commissions from Radio Slovenia and ZKP RTV Slovenia. This meant we were given a single day in the studio to record and mix each track. Once enough songs had accumulated, they were released on vinyl,” recalls Kreslin. The tracks were recorded at Studio Metro, with additional contributions from Urban Urbanija (saxophone) and Mario Marolt (percussion) of Miladojka Youneed. The recording engineer was Iztok Černe, producers Tomaž Sršen and Dadi Kašnar, and the cover design was created by the late Silvo Belcijan. “Back then, we would fall apart at every concert. We literally bled on stage, giving our absolute maximum at every performance,” Kreslin told Tomo Köleš in 2010 for Pomurski vestnik. Köleš confirms this: “I remember a Martin Krpan concert in the late eighties at the student residence hall in Ljubljana’s Rožna dolina—it remains one of the best live performances I have ever seen, not only in Slovenia but internationally as well.”
